After years of being led to believe that straight hair was the be all and end all, nobody could live without ghds and that poker straight hair was essential, the backlash against the hair straighteners has finally begun. The question is; are you brave enough to embrace the waves?
It’s been well over a decade since Jennifer Aniston’s “Rachel” do was the must-have haircut for women all over the world and straightened hair has been hot ever since that particular fad passed. Never mind leaving the house without a full face of makeup, most of our friends won’t even go to the corner shop without ironing all of the kinks out of their tresses. Is this about to become a thing of the past?
It would appear so and more and more women are kicking those straighteners to the kerb and heading out with curls, waves, crops and hair which is anything but poker-straight. Aside from incredibly straight hair being very unflattering to many face shapes, imagine a world with no more burned foreheads and ears, far fewer split ends and no reason to panic about accidentally burning the house down while you are at work. Amazing! Ok, we know that many models of straighteners have an automatic shut-off now, but that fear has never left us since we first used the magical devices many years ago.
So, will you be one of those expressing their individuality through their hair? Or do you believe that your hair actually does reflect your personality? There are plenty of stereotypes relating to hair length, style and colours – redheads are fiery, blondes are less intelligent, short hair is masculine, tight ponytails are chavvy and so on. Personally, we say be gone with the clichés – our hair is our hair and we’ll do whatever we like with it! Although, maybe we will straighten it just once more before heading out this weekend…
